Spotlight on Reconciliation
52 Ways to Reconcile with Indigenous People

Each week in 2026 we spotlight one way to walk on the path of healing with Indigenous People. This week we focus on the difference between Cultural Appropriation and Cultural Appreciation.
“The distinction is relatively straightforward: it’s an act of appropriation when someone uses an aspect of a culture that is not their own without understanding or respecting it. Appreciation on the other hand, builds relationships across different cultures and involves asking permission and giving credit and fair compensation.”

Chinese New Year - come celebrate the Year of the Horse February 15th
(If it is raining we will meet at the Sichuan Kitchen located at 2078 Parker St. in San Luis Obispo. Please visit and eat at Sichaun Kitchen.)

The Horse is commonly associated with:
Freedom & Independence: Horses thrive when they can move fast and follow their own path. This year favors self-expression and personal ambition.
Energy & Action: Expect a faster pace. The Horse doesn’t sit still for long, making this a great year to take initiative.
Confidence & Charisma: Horse years often spotlight leadership, social connections, and being seen or heard.Run before 8 AM or after 6 PM to avoid peak heat

We’re planning to support Northern Chumash Tribal Council’s TEK-MAR school at Jalama Ranch in Lompoc!
TEK-MAR stands for “Traditional Ecological Knowledge Mitigation and Remediation.”
“This is our first and permanent tribal office,” says Violet Sage Walker, the Northern Chumash Tribal Council’s chairwoman. “It's our new location for our headquarters for ocean conservation and land conservation and our consultations that we do.”
That’s it for this week.
Keep showing up, keep cheering each other on — and as always, remember We Are All Part of One Global Family!
