Cultural Burn Planned for Miossi Open Space Area June 8-10

Indigenous Burns

Miossi Open Space

yak titʸu titʸu yak tiłhini Northern Chumash Tribe is planning a cultural burn in the Miossi Open Space area at the base of the Cuesta Grade next week.

Indigenous Tribes of California have had a cultural relationship with fire for over 10,000 years and recognize its role and responsibility to support life on the land. These cultural burns are controlled, often smaller burns, that are led by Indigenous fire practitioners for the purpose of revitalizing plants, reducing wildfire risk, enhancing habitat, and broadly maintaining Indigenous lifeways and native ecosystems.

The cultural burn will be happening near Highway 101 at Miossi Open Space near the base of the Cuesta Grade on either June 8, 9 or 10. The exact date is dependent on weather conditions.

Multicultural Potluck

National Immigrant Heritage Month at Our Global Family Farm June 21st

Multicultural Potlucks are held monthly on the farm. Join us on the third Sunday at 1pm. These connect us to our family roots & cultural heritages from around the world. Gather in celebration at our Multicultural Potlucks, where every meal is a testament to the rich tapestry of cultural diversity that defines our community. These potlucks are more than just food events—they're dynamic spaces for cultural exchanges, where you can share stories, food, comradrie.

National Immigrant Heritage Month is observed every June to celebrate the diverse cultures, resilience, and vital economic contributions that immigrants bring to communities across the United States.

The month-long observance—which highlights how the “melting pot” has shaped American society—features a variety of nationwide and community-led events. Bring a dish that features food from your ancestry.
